Frequently Asked Questions
Explore answers to common questions about therapy and how I work. These FAQs are here to help you understand the process and feel more prepared as you get started.
Your first session focuses on understanding your needs, your goals, and what brought you to therapy. If you book without a consultation, we’ll spend the first 15–20 minutes reviewing my Practice Policies & Service Agreement so you know exactly what to expect and how your care is structured. After that, we’ll talk through what you’re hoping to work on, explore your history at a pace that feels comfortable, and outline what ongoing care could look like.
No. I currently provide services to clients across the state of Virginia through virtual care, also known as telehealth. I do not offer in‑person sessions at this time. If you need an in‑person provider and would like help finding someone with availability, feel free to reach out — I’m happy to assist with researching as support.
No. I do not accept physical cash or checks. I do accept cash‑pay clients, which simply means clients who choose not to use insurance and pay the full session rate out‑of‑pocket. Payments are processed securely by debit or credit card through invoicing or through the dedicated EHR platform you’re scheduled on.
You can contact me using the client line number provided during your signup. You’re welcome to call, text, or leave a detailed voicemail if I’m unavailable. You may also email me or send a secure message through the platform portal you’re connected with (Grow or Headway).
I respond during business hours and do my best to provide clear, timely communication. Please note that messaging is for non‑urgent needs only.
Most formal documentation—such as FMLA, disability, or workers’ compensation forms—must be completed by a medical professional (M.D., D.O., DNP, PA, NP, PMHNP). As a licensed therapist, I cannot complete these forms.
I currently provide the following documentation upon request and for an additional fee:
Basic letters of care
Official letters for personal records
Emotional Support Animal (ESA) evaluations*
*This service is not covered by insurance and requires structured evaluation and assessment, which is outlined in the Practice Policies & Service Agreement.
An Emotional Support Animal (ESA) evaluation is a structured clinical assessment used to determine whether an ESA is clinically appropriate and whether a letter is justified based on your symptoms and daily functioning. This process is not a quick form or a guaranteed approval — it is a formal mental‑health evaluation that requires time, documentation, and clinical judgment.
ESA evaluations are designed to understand:
your current emotional or mental health symptoms
how those symptoms impact your daily life
whether your animal provides measurable emotional support that reduces significant distress
This evaluation is not therapy, and it is not covered by insurance. It is a separate, fee‑based service.
Important details about ESA evaluations
An ESA evaluation does not guarantee a letter. A letter is only provided if the clinical criteria are met. If the evaluation does not support the need for an ESA, a letter will not be issued.
The is a two-part evaluation and each part can take 90–120 minutes each. This time across two separate sessions, scheduled two weeks apart to allow for reflection, documentation, and clinical review. ESA evaluations are cash‑pay only. ESA evaluations are not the same as service animal evaluations.
An ESA letter:
- does not grant public access rights
may or may not be accepted by housing providers depending on their policies
must be renewed annually
